Rapid Impact Compaction and dynamic compaction are two different kinds of equipment. Their working principle is to use kinetic energy to transform into impact energy to tamp soil, but their strokes and frequencies are different. The tamping stroke of the Rapid Impact Compaction is about 200~1600mm, and the frequency is fast, up to 30 times/minute, while the stroke of the dynamic rammer can be as high as tens of meters, and the frequency is extremely low, which can be regarded as a single pulse.

Dynamic compaction machine is used to use mechanical power to drop a heavy hammer of several tons to dozens of tons from a height of several meters to more than ten meters freely, and to conduct dynamic compaction on the soil, so that the soil is forced to compact, reducing its compressibility and improving its strength. This reinforcement method is called "dynamic compaction method" in the industry. It is mainly applicable to coarse grained soil with particle size greater than 0.05mm, such as sand, gravel soil, mountain soil, fly ash, miscellaneous fill, backfill, low saturation silt, cohesive soil, micro expansive soil and collapsible loess. It has no obvious reinforcement effect on saturated silt and cohesive soil.

Rapid Impact Compaction is a kind of compaction machine that uses the combined force of machine gravity and variable force to compress soil. Relatively speaking, the Rapid Impact Compaction has a small tonnage, but the working hammer has the function of hydraulic boosting and auxiliary efficiency enhancement while falling freely, and the working area of the hammer is small, which will also form a large impact force (the tamping strength of some large hydraulic rammers will also exceed that of small level dynamic rammers). Therefore, the Rapid Impact Compaction is also called a hydraulic dynamic rammer or a light dynamic rammer.
